Rule: Minimum of 77 hours of rest in any 7 day period
Although the maximum number of hours a crew member can work in any 24 hour period is 14, the 7-day rule was introduced to limit the number of times this can occur within a short timeframe. Meaning that to stay compliant the crew member must have qualifying total rest of 11 hours on a daily basis.
This is calculated by taking the two largest rest periods for the current day (that are between 00:00 and 00:00) and then adding the previous 6 days (two largest rest periods) together to report the 7 day period.
